Leonard C. Maximon

Leonard Maximon (b. 1926 in New York, New York, d. 2020) was a Research Professor of Physics in the Department of Physics at The George Washington University. He had been an Assistant Professor in the Graduate Division of Applied Mathematics at Brown University, a Visiting Professor at the Norwegian Technical University in Trondheim, Norway, and a Physicist at the Center for Radiation Research at the National Bureau of Standards. He was also an Associate Editor for Physics for the DLMF project.

Maximon published numerous papers on the fundamental processes of quantum electrodynamics and on the special functions of mathematical physics. He is also coauthor for the Encyclopedia of Physics, published by the Wiley Publishing Company.

Maximon is author or coauthor of the following DLMF Chapters

Maximon was a member of the original editorial committee for the DLMF project, in existence from the mid-1990’s to the mid-2010’s. During this time he served as Associate Editor with responsibilities for all aspects of the project. The original committee was reconstituted in 2015; for details see About the Project.

In November 2015, Maximon was named Associate Editor for Chapter 34.
