Nico M. Temme (b. 1940 in Grootebroek, The Netherlands) is Emeritus Researcher in the Centrum Wiskunde & Informatica (CWI), Amsterdam. He is also one of the Associate Editors for Special Functions in the DLMF project and a Senior Associate Editor of the DLMF.

Temme’s main research interests are the asymptotic and numerical aspects of special functions. He has published numerous papers on these topics, and his well-known book Special Functions: An Introduction to the Classical Functions of Mathematical Physics was published by John Wiley and Sons in 1996. He is also coauthor (with A. Gil and J. Segura) of Numerical Methods for Special Functions, published by SIAM in 2007. His book Asymptotic Methods for Integrals was published by World Scientific in 2015. He has served on the editorial boards of the SIAM Journal on Mathematical Analysis, Mathematics of Computation, ZAMP, and Integral Transforms and Special Functions. In July 2005, a conference Special Functions: Asymptotic Analysis and Computation was held in Santander, Spain, to celebrate his 65th birthday. On the occasion of his retirement in 2005 he was awarded the decoration Knight in the Order of the Dutch Lion, issued by the King of the Netherlands.

Temme was a member of the original editorial committee for the DLMF project, in existence from the mid-1990’s to the mid-2010’s. During this time he served as Associate Editor with responsibilities for all aspects of the project. The original committee was reconstituted in 2015; for details see About the Project. He also served as a Validator for the original release and publication in May 2010 of the NIST Digital Library of Mathematical Functions and the NIST Handbook of Mathematical Functions.

In November 2015, Temme was named Senior Associate Editor of the DLMF and Associate Editor for Chapters 3, 6, 7, and 12.
