Hans Volkmer (b. 1953 in Bremen, Germany) is Professor in the Department of Mathematical Sciences of the University of Wisconsin–Milwaukee. He studied mathematics and physics at the University of Konstanz. He received his Ph.D. under the supervision of Professor Friedrich W. Schäfke in 1979 on a topic in special functions. Subsequently, he spent eleven years at the University of Essen as an assistant to Professor Dieter Schmidt, and then in 1990 joined the faculty at the University of Wisconsin–Milwaukee.

Volkmer has published numerous papers on special functions, spectral theory, differential equations, and mathematical statistics. His book Multiparameter Eigenvalue Problems and Expansion Theorems was published by Springer as Lecture Notes in Mathematics No. 1356 in 1988.

Volkmer is author of the following DLMF Chapters

Volkmer served as a Validator for the original release and publication in May 2010 of the NIST Digital Library of Mathematical Functions and the NIST Handbook of Mathematical Functions.

In November 2015, Volkmer was named Associate Editor for his chapters.
